Yes, it is Paris. And it is the Mandarin
Oriental, one of only eight hotels in Paris accorded the “Palace” status. But there
are other 5-star hotels for a quarter of the price (around the RM1,000 to
RM2,000 range) including at other big name hotels such as the Hyatt,
Renaissance and even the Grand Hotel du Palais Royale.
BEDDING & BATHROBES
The luxury and frills that make a Mandarin
Oriental Paris stay include sumptuous bedding and bedlinens by Josephine Home,
where a mere pillowcase, albeit made with 300 count 100percent Egyptian cotton,
starts at RM203 (GBP35) per piece. We’ll spare you the price tag for at least
four pillowcases, the bedsheets, duvet and duvet cover here, as you might be
able to guess for yourself how much the whole set could be.
After your bath, or just for lounging
around in ultimate comfort, put on the Frette bathrobe provided, these going
for a starting price of RM1580 (USD395) on their website!
“FREE” AMENITIES
Tea from Mariage Freres
Every room at the Mandarin Oriental Paris
has its own Nespresso coffee machine (with the relevant refills, of course) as
well as Mariage Freres gourmet tea, apparently Paris’s most famous gourmet tea,
to be steeped and served in the Mariage Frere-branded teapot provided in-room. Price
of this esteemed tea? About RM60 (EUR13) per 100g on the lower side.
Toiletries by Diptyque
Meanwhile, the toiletries that you get to filch
keep in your bag every day of your stay as housekeeping refills the next day,
are by Parisian luxury goods company Diptyque – where their Art of Body Care
travel collection consisting of mini-sized Smoothing Body Polish, Revitalizing
Shower Get, Fresh Lotion for the Body and Luxurious Hand Balm cost RM200 (USD50)
on their website, diptyqueparis.com.
Speaking of housekeeping, this service
drops by twice a day, so your room feels more refreshed throughout the day.
TECHNOLOGY
If you like to unwind by watching TV,
you’ll be turning on a Bang & Olufsen television set, with matching audio
systems. The latest movies are on-hand, on-demand, to be viewed in high
definition – and also available in the bathroom. In-room Wi-Fi is, of course,
included, and able to power up to four devices (generous by European
standards).
EXTRA FRILLS FOR THIS PRICE
A Deluxe room at the Mandarin Oriental Paris
actually only costs about RM5,800 per night (only? Hahaha!). The RM6,593 start
rate is actually for the “Zen and Beauty by Guerlain” accommodation package,
where one guest gets an 80-minute Guerlain beauty treatment during her stay,
and will leave with a souvenir in the form of a bottle of Guerlain perfume from
the ‘Exclusifs’ collection, bearing the engraved name of the guest. The rate is
for two people per room per night, inclusive of breakfast at the hotel’s
Camelia restaurant, serving all-day French cuisine.
Enjoy breakfast at the Garden Table at Camelia
