Stay At One Of The Coolest Hipster Hotel Chains When In Tokyo Or Osaka

The entrance to the Moxy Tokyo

Planning a trip to Japan in the near future? If you're going to Tokyo or Osaka (or both, you lucky you!), you might want to check out the Moxy hotels in these two cities. More youth community centres than a place to crash at night, Moxy hotels are boutique hotels that provide basic amenities in stylish settings.

That means you're not paying for anything you don't need, but they're not scrimping on interior design, either. But they do give free WiFi, don't worry about that! Other facilities provided for your convenience include locker services for bulky items you don't need to have in your room, a laundry room and ironing room.

On top of that, one of the characteristics of Moxy hotels is that they must be located downtown or close by, near many amenities and facilities like restaurants, convenience stores and train stations. Your trip becomes a whole lot easier just by staying here!

Osaka: Stay at the Moxy Honmachi

The hotel is located just 650 metres away from Hommachi train station, which is about a 5-8 minutes' walk. In fact, you can even walk to Osaka Castle if you want to, the walk taking only about 30 minutes. It's also close to the shopping district of Namba and the exciting food and nightlife spot, Shinsaibashi. How much for a night? About MYR448 (USD107!) during low season, so it's like staying at a cool backpackers hostel but with a room just to yourself and your travel partner!

This room is called the Secret Base Queen room, because it has no windows - perfect for those who love this kind of solitary comfort.

If you want to stay in the biggest room at the Moxy Osaka Honmachi, go for the Moxy Signature Twin Room, which measures 29m-squared in size. (Disclaimer: This blog post contains affiliate links. I may earn a small commission to fund my coffee drinking habit if you use these links to make a purchase. You will not be charged extra, and you’ll keep me supplied in caffeine. It’s a win for everyone, really.)

The rooms at the Moxy might seem pretty basic, but it's pretty obvious the food offering is definitely not.

In Tokyo: Stay at the Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho

Room for two at Moxy Tokyo

Just like at the Osaka hotel, the Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho features a chic industrial design decor theme, punctuated by bright colours and Asian-themed elements. Of course, the location is just as convenient - 8-minute's walk to Kinshicho train station, where on the way you'll pass Marui shopping mall, and a 30-minutes walk to Tokyo Skytree. Due to its proximity to train stations, it's a great base from which to explore Tokyo. This also makes it easy to get to Narita and Haneda airport by train. Rooms run from around MYR770 (about USD185), which is within the mid-budget range considering its prime location and that it's a Marriott property.

Moxy hotels also have a laundry room as well as ironing room, so you can pack light and wash and rewear your clothes when staying here.

Moxy is a great place for adventurous travellers to meet new people at their "highly social communal areas" where you can play foosball or board games with friends or strangers you just met :) Step into their elevator and you'll find that it's been kitted out like a photo booth, complete with photo props (use your own phone camera, though).

Just don't confuse the library for the game room, because both look equally cool and happening!

With many social events on a Moxy hotel calendar, you might not even have to leave the hotel to have fun! Regular happenings include jam sessions, beer pong, scavenger hunts, trivia nights, perhaps a bit of Zumba, or even classic film screenings and tarot card readings for those preferring something more relaxing.

Don't you just love it when the lounge looks like they actually want people to lounge around here?

So if you're looking to book a room at Moxy Tokyo or Moxy Osaka, at least you know there'll be something to look forward to when you come back to hotel every day you're there! Extra experience on your travels - meeting new people, trying new things - right at the hotel.
